Time Is Running Out!

Home Cookin' for Pets

I've noticed over the past couple of weeks that I'm getting lots of hits on "CatFood" by folks looking for recipes to make homemade dog and cat foods.

While this is a website devoted to food for people I thought I'd post a link to a very recent New York Times article that discusses a number of cook books geared toward cooking for your pets. It also has lots of links to nutrition information and to the additional pet food recalls.

I actually do bake my dogs biscuits on a regular basis. My Lab is allergic to both corn and wheat and it's really difficult to find commercially made treats for him. He also loves baby carrots and apple wedges! If anyone's interested I'll post the recipe for the biscuits this week. They're made with brown rice flour and oats along with grated carrot, apple and olive oil.

Cheese Making in Tuscany

I got a little sidetracked over the weekend while I was color correcting and editing down all my photos from Tuscany. I decided to try and teach myself the iMovie software and it slowed me down a bit. Today I put together this "snapshot" of one of our excursions to a cheese making factory in San Gimignano. Cacio Pecorino S. Gimignano is known for their plain, black pepper and red chile flecked Pecorino as well as their amazingly fresh Ricotta cheeses. The factory was beautifully clean with a little shop on the side where you could purchase all these fantastic cheeses plus additional locally made products. It wasn't in the most picturesque of areas, a small industrial park to be exact - but it certainly was the real thing!

A dear friend sent me a link to this site and if you're at all interested in NYC history or neighborhoods or architecture you must check it out! There's a great interactive map as well as beautiful photos and wonderful snips of New York City neighborhood history.

Caleb Smith is the intrepid walker and his 2 year, 500 mile journey was carefully recorded with a sharpie and an old Hagstrom map. Check it out and have fun!

Sorry folks but this computer not only ate my brain but all of my time too! I'll leave you with some yellow plums and promises that there will be pie tomorrow.
